My Heart’s Home is mourning the loss of Wes Guckert, a kind, generous, and brilliant member of the organization’s founding board of directors, who later stayed to serve as a member of its advisory board. Mr. Guckert, who founded The Traffic Group, headquartered in Baltimore County, selflessly gave of his time and financial resources to support My Heart’s Home as a trusted advisor, connector, and knowledge-seeker. Though he led a large family, a successful business with domestic and international clients, and served on many boards, Mr. Guckert found time to arrange for and travel to an autism housing project in Rockville, MD during a busy work day in his own office. He frequently engaged in inspiring and educational discussions with our founder, Lisa Wiederlight, and generously donated financial resources to support our administrative and fundraising activities. Perhaps one of the greatest examples of Wes’ interest was making the time to attend our annual charity dinner at the end of each year, and sharing the event and our purpose with his lovely family.
My Heart’s Home’s founder, Lisa Wiederlight, stated, “My friend and mentor Wes was generous with his time and treasure, and I am not sure I would have started this organization without him giving me hope and inspiration. I appreciated the opportunity to learn from his wisdom and share with him the problem we’re addressing; and was touched by his compassion for the difficulties our communities must face. Wes, as a disabled Vietnam veteran, had a good understanding of the issues related to our veteran community. But he was very interested to learn more about the developmental disabilities community. He asked such good questions, and showed a great deal of interest, care, and compassion. The world has lost a truly amazing individual.”
We are thankful for the opportunity to have worked with Mr. Guckert, and for everything he provided our cause.
